Job Overview

The Logistics Coordinator / Scheduler is a key member of the Commercial and Operations teams at the Crimson Renewable Energy, LP organization. As a result of our growth over the past few years, the Logistics Coordinator/Scheduler is an addition to the department, and tasked with managing railcar and truck logistics for Crimson’s biodiesel production and marketing business. The position requires situational awareness in a highly dynamic environment and constant communication with Crimson operations and trading staff, logistic counterparts at customers and suppliers, truck carriers and railroad companies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage and monitor a fleet of leased tanker cars
  • Constant monitoring of Crimson, supplieand customer railcar locations and progress versus ETAs, and daily communication with the railroads about this
  • Ensure cars are efficiently utilized by minimizing idle time, planning shipments, and minimizing dead freight
  • Understand and monitor tank inventory levels, production forecasts versus purchasing and sales commitments
  • Work diligently with all members of the trading and operations group to plan and organize rail and truck logistics and related assets
  • Develop plans to add, store or remove railcars to match railcar supply with needs
  • Manage demurrage with a focus on maximizing rail fleet efficiency and rapid turnaround times for offloading cars
  • Schedule truck movements in a manner that meets inventory needs while being cognizant of any operational constraints and minimizing truck wait times and demurrage
  • Be attentive to assessorial costs and proactively mitigate these expenses
  • Search for improved freight opportunities / economics
  • Work in conjunction with traders to manage truck and rail assets and vendors
  • Responsible for any freight related claims or disputes


Education and Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree
  • Organized and detail oriented with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, operating personnel, railroad personnel, and truckers
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be an effective communicator; can remain poised and in control while dealing with competing time pressure demands
  • Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks under stringent deadlines
  • Complete special projects/assume additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Ability to work the hours required to get the job done
  • Work location Denver, Colorado (occasional travel to field locations and customer meetings)
  • Must be able to successfully pass Drug and Alcohol pre-employment and on-going screening


Experience and Job Skills

  • 3+ years experience in truck and rail and logistics
  • Knowledge and experience billing and managing railcars and working with the railroads
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Internet
  • Demonstrated ability to multi task and successfully work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to see the big picture, assess the situation and make decisions
