Job Purpose:

The Plant Operator is engaged in all facets of Asphalt, Crude oils, Avgas, Jet Fuel and Renewable Diesel operations while ensuring a safe and well‐kept work environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Safely operates all plant equipment
  • Monitor process operating parameters and utility infrastructure operations (i.e. boilers, water treatment, etc.)
  • Make multiple daily plant rounds checking equipment for potential problems
  • Identify and report all issues related to equipment functionality and safety; recommend preventative maintenance or repair; undertake minor repairs when possible
  • Troubleshoot processing problems and take appropriate corrective action
  • Perform general housekeeping of assigned areas
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions regarding production/operations and Environmental, Health and Safety; communicate effectively with peers, lead and supervisor.
  • Perform all duties in manner consistent with Environmental, Health & Safety policies and procedures
  • Accurately complete forms related to inventory tracking, railcar inspection and daily round sheets.
  • Safely move railcars within the yard to continue efficient throughput of facility
  • Accurately fill out daily shift sheet that has any defects of equipment or conditions of facility
  • Keeps a daily yard log of events or problems during shift so next shift can monitor same
  • Perform inspections of incoming and outgoing railcars; identify all defects or missing placards upon entry to facility. Insures railcars have all bolts, caps and plugs securely fastened and seals are in place before releasing railcars
  • Monitors truck loading bays and assist drivers

Education and Basic Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to read, write and speak English
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Able to meet minimum DOT requirements
  • Pass random drug screens

Experience and Job Skills

  • Experience working in a small plant environment (i.e. less than 40 people) is a strong plus
  • Able to communicate with internal company personnel and external vendors effectively
  • Able to make routine decisions within a predetermined span of authority
  • Able to exercise independent judgment prior to consultation with supervisor
  • Must have a hands‐on approach and strong work ethic

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to heights, noise, extreme weather conditions, and areas where hazardous chemicals are present
  • Must be able to work all shifts / schedules as needed
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and to handle competing demands with flexibility
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, sit, walk extensively
